Watch: Dehradun Woman Builds Stunning Garden At Home, Without Training!

Step into ‘Phoolon ka Sheher’ — the City of Flowers. That’s what neighbours call Poonam Arora’s home, and the moment you see it, you’ll know why. Her love for flowers blooms in every corner, from vibrant succulents to seasonal blossoms. “I’ve always loved flowers. And today, my home is covered in them!” Her eyes light up as she speaks about the garden she has nurtured for years.

Poonam’s journey began in childhood, sparked by a house she passed on her way to school. The woman who lived there had transformed her home into a floral paradise, and young Poonam dreamt of doing the same one day. “I dreamt of creating one too,” she recalls. Years later, when she finally had a home of her own, she began the arduous task of turning that dream into reality.

Her days are spent sowing, snipping, and handcrafting cement planters. She recycles scrap materials into garden art, her hands almost always covered in mud. “Relatives would mock me, saying I’m wasting my time. Some still whisper,” she shares. But despite the doubts of others, her husband and son stood by her, offering support and encouragement.

Today, her garden is an inspiration for anyone who loves flowers and dreams of starting their own patch of green — no formal training needed. It’s a colourful haven, filled with handcrafted decor and beautiful plants. From miniature garden pieces to decorative pots and figurines, every corner tells a story of creativity and love.

“Through social media, I share my journey, helping others create their own little green paradise,” she adds. Her page, ‘Poonam’s Crafteria and Yard’, showcases all the work she has poured into her home over the years.

What’s even more impressive is that she creates everything herself using simple materials like cement putti, scrap bowls, POP, stones, bamboo sticks, and even old clothes. “To anyone who thinks gardening needs training — I started with nothing but passion. I’ve learnt so much about love and patience, and trust me, the effort is worth it,” she concludes.
