Indore’s Deval Verma Turns Scrap Metal Into Global Art, Championing Sustainability

Inspired by the popular TV show M.A.D (Music, Art, and Dance) and its host, Harun Robert, Deval Verma began experimenting with waste materials to create miniature models of cars and motorcycles. Little did he know that this early interest would direct him towards a life-changing journey.

As a child, Deval’s weekends were reserved for making small DIY projects using scraps he found around his home and school. This continued throughout his teenage years, and by the time he reached college, he was making intricate models from scrap metal, inspired by his love for sci-fi movies like Transformers

While Deval was studying mechanical engineering, his skills caught the attention of local garages and automotive factories, which began supplying him with metal scraps. One of his most notable creations was a scrap installation of Harley Davidson’s official logo, designed specifically for their showroom.

Deval’s creative journey took a pivotal turn after he finished his engineering degree. Despite initial objections from his parents, he decided to follow his heart and pursued a course in Product Design at the MIT Institute of Design in Pune. This marked a defining moment in his career, as he fully committed to pursuing art. His first exhibition in Dubai, featuring two guitars crafted from metal scrap, marked the official beginning of his professional journey as a metal artist.

Through persistence and support from mentors, Deval gained recognition in the art world. His works, ranging from functional pieces like mini-robot planters to elaborate sculptures, attracted a loyal following from across India and internationally. Buyers from Singapore, Italy, and the United States are drawn to his creations.
